Hattie is an amazing District Nurse. She inspires others through her leadership and mentorship. She is a Queen’s Nurse too.
Here is her story
'I’ve been nursing since 1995 and have been so lucky to have been encouraged by inspiring and influential nurses throughout my career who have encouraged me to aim high and be the best I possibly can, I love offering the same to others who have potential and try to nurture them and give them opportunities to develop and learn, I’m a practice teacher and enjoy the journey of development I have each year with the specialist district nurse students.
I’ve nursed in community since 2002, registered district nurse specialist since 2004, have worked in different cities, towns and more rural settings. I get a buzz from variety which is one of the things you can always guarantee in the community, I like the challenge of thinking differently and problem solving. I am passionate about patient choice and want to deliver care to people in their own homes promoting independence, self-management, and continuity of care through named nursing.
I am honored to be a Queen’s Nurse, the QNI is dedicated to improving nursing care of people in their own homes and communities. It is a supportive and highly respected organization, there is also annual conference, key publications and surveys that influence standards and sharing models of best practice, investment in nursing careers, amongst many other projects. I am also very lucky to have been accepted onto their leadership program this year, we had the first residential days in May and I am hoping to continue to influence change that improves care with this course supporting me.'
Hattie you may have been inspired by nurses but you inspire me to be a better nurse.
